Following the success of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man (2002), a sequel quickly entered development. Released in 2004 to critical and commercial acclaim, Spider-Man 2 has since become widely regarded as one of the greatest superhero films ever made and is considered by many to be even better than the first film—a rare feat for a sequel! Expanding upon the emotional depth and scale of the first film, the sequel raised the stakes for every character and presented a more personal story.
There was little question that Danny Elfman would return to score the film. Building upon many of the themes introduced in Spider-Man, Elfman expanded and developed his thematic material and introduced a powerful new musical identity for Doctor Otto Octavius, aka Doc Ock.
The score features truly massive orchestrations. Alongside the 110 piece orchestra and choir, Elfman incorporated his own personally recorded string and percussion samples, blending the traditional orchestra with electronic textures and sound design. The score also made use of several synthesizers including the Waldorf Micro Q, Waldorf XT, and Access Virus desktop module, all of which were pre-layered by the composer in Digital Performer.
This edition was engraved from the orchestrations by Steve Bartek, David Slonaker, Edgardo Simone, Mark McKenzie, and Marc Mann.
Includes a foreword by Danny Elfman and an essay by Steve Bartek!
